Two years ago, I left the nonprofit world to join K2 & Company, and to be honest, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. I knew I was walking into a faster-paced environment with a bigger variety of projects and clients, but I don’t think I realized just how much I’d grow, or how much I’d actually enjoy the whirlwind.
Before K2, I had done some media pitching here and there, but nothing compared to what I’ve taken on in the last two years. I’ve landed op-eds, helped coordinate interviews, and sent what feels like hundreds of emails and calls to press. And yes, sometimes it’s a hustle, but there’s a little thrill when you finally see your client quoted in print or hear them on air saying exactly what you helped them prepare for. That part never gets old!
What really makes working at K2 special is the people. We’ve got a team full of people who are sharp, creative, and collaborative. And here’s the kicker, we actually talk to each other. Not just in our own departments, but across the board. Political folks are weighing in on social content. Communications people are helping shape event messaging. It’s a total group effort. Someone’s always popping in with an idea or a fresh perspective, and I love that. We all bring different backgrounds to the table, and we all pitch in to get the job done.
Here’s something I didn’t expect: I found myself managing a project that leaned way more into logistics and timelines than the creative side of communications. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the work. Turns out, I kind of loved it. There’s something satisfying about making a complicated project run smoothly, keeping things organized, and helping a client hit their goals on time. It’s not the splashiest work, but sometimes, the unsung hero really is a well-built spreadsheet and a clear to-do list.
Working with clients in so many different industries has taught me to think on my feet and adapt quickly. At the end of the day, this work is about people. The clients we serve, the communities we engage with, and the team that makes it all happen. I’ve learned so much, and I’m still learning. I’m grateful to be part of a place that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and growth.
Two years in, and things are just getting started!
