We are seeking a proactive, skilled Public Affairs Account Executive who thrives at the intersection of communications, media engagement, and Midwest politics. What You’ll Do
As a Public Affairs Account Executive, you will manage day-to-day account operations across diverse industries for our clients including healthcare, energy, business, and non-profits.
- Strategic Communications: Develop and execute comprehensive public affairs and communications plans tailored to achieve specific client goals.
- Content Creation: Craft compelling written materials including press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, social media content, one-pagers, web copy, and visual graphics.
- Media Relations & Pitching: Build and maintain strong relationships with local, state, and national journalists; pitch stories and deliver media training to build client thought leadership.
- Legislative & Political Navigation: Help clients successfully navigate local, state, and federal political landscapes across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
- Coalition & Grassroots Building: Develop and manage coalitions, cultivating grassroots and grasstop partnerships that amplify client issues with press, policymakers, and the public.
- Account & Metric Management: Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for client needs, tracking key deliverables and engagement metrics to demonstrate campaign momentum and success.
What You Need to Succeed (Required)
- Experience: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years in strategic communications, public relations, media relations, or government affairs.
- Regional Expertise: Strong understanding of the Midwest political landscape, with a focus on Minnesota, Wisconsin, and/or Illinois.
- Media Savvy: Proven track record of pitching, building relationships with, and securing coverage from members of the press.
- Digital Literacy: Proficiency across major social media platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, sharp attention to detail, strong organization skills, and the ability to manage multiple client accounts in a fast-paced environment.
- Work Style: Collaborative mindset, active curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine passion for policy and current events.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
- Direct experience working on Capitol Hill, in a state legislature, and/or on political campaigns.
- Established relationships with Midwest lawmakers, media outlets, grasstop groups, or political organizations.
- Prior experience managing client accounts within an agency, association, non-profit, or coalition setting.
