Last week marked my first month with K2 & Co and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this family. I’ve been surrounded by a team that is not only strategic and creative but also extremely welcoming and driven. In this first month, I have been a sponge, soaking in all new programs, protocols, client information, and feedback from my coworkers.
Starting a new job is also followed by an infinite amount of questions. Fortunately, having a supportive team that embraces questions rather than judges has allowed me to work more efficiently and contribute to K2’s fast-paced culture.
Multiple Clients, One Voice
One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to adapt to different clients, each with their own voice, expectations, and agenda. Some clients prefer pin-straight, professional language while others prefer bold, punchy content that makes a statement. Learning how to quickly transition from one task to the next while simultaneously switching tones has been key to producing quality content for clients.
But to understand a client’s tone, you need to understand the client as a whole first. Is the client looking to run for public office? Do they have a family? Are they religious? Any military experience? What are their past jobs or positions? What values are most important to them? Where are they from? Who is their target audience? These are just a few of many important questions that frame who the clients are and the personalized content that is important to them.
No Team, No Me
Another aspect that has been crucial in my work throughout my first month has been my amazing team, especially my fellow interns, Kristin and Jenna. I have always believed that a person is only as strong as the team behind them. Working alongside Jenna and Kristin, and the entire K2 team, have been a true testament to that statement. We support each other, offer feedback, and are always willing to lend a hand or an extra set of eyes.
It takes a village to “get to yes” with potential and current clients, but I am surrounded by some of the best villagers around. I am proud of what I have learned in this first month and even more excited about everything still to come.
