It’s been one month since I started my internship at K2 & Co. and if there’s one word I could use to describe this transitional period, it would be rewarding.

Organization is critical in this industry. Though some clients have similar needs, they have particular ways they want things to be done, and understanding the small differences is crucial. It’s very enjoyable to immerse myself directly into making content for our clients with a deadline-based schedule while I balance my last semester at broadcasting school. All this work helps me realize how important interpersonal communication is in public relations. Our clients rely on us 24/7, and there’s nothing more satisfying than when I knock out a task in a moment’s notice with efficiency and efficacy in order to help our clients get to “yes.”

Altogether, I have found my first month as an intern at K2 & Co. to be very rewarding. My managers and peers allow me to use my own ability and perspective to tackle assignments. I’ve also discovered ways the industry operates that I was not familiar with before. For example, we use several different software applications to do our jobs. I’ve learned how to use Canva, MailChimp, Gulf Partyline, etc. Learning how to draft press releases, make graphics for social media, and build weekly newsletters with these tools not only comes in handy for all our clients, as they are valuable skills to have while I further my career.

I feel very at home with this company and in this industry, and I’m eager to continue serving our clients the K2 way whilst I expand my abilities and chase my dream of working in political media!
